NEWSLETTER - September 2009
Welcome to the start of the 2009/10 season for The Glen Singers. I hope you have had a good summer, despite the weather!
Before I draw attention to the choir’s plans for the next year, I’d like to bring you up to date with the final months of the 2008/09 season.
At the beginning of June the choir, with a mix of family and members of the Friends of The Glen Singers spent an enjoyable day at Scarborough. In excellent weather, we took morning coffee at Thornton Le Dale on the outward journey and on our return we stopped for a lovely meal at The White Horse, Church Fenton. It is with much gratitude we thank Ernest and Maureen for organising it.
The penultimate concert was held at St Andrew’s Methodist Church, Undercliffe on
27th June. This ‘Summer Concert’ was also the inaugural ‘Friends of The Glen Singers’ concert at which the ladies of the choir were seen in their new concert uniforms.
(A photograph is on the homepage of the website).
The friends were able to use their complimentary tickets, given as part of their annual subscription and our patron Councillor Jeanette Sunderland was amongst the guests for the evening. Coincidently (well not really!) the choir also released the first of its newsletters with contributions from various members of the choir and it has been well received by its readers.
The final charity concert was held at Christchurch, Skipton on 4th July in aid of its refurbishment project and we wish them well with it. A ‘team’ coach conveyed many of the choir and supporters to the venue and it was a fabulous concert for all concerned.
Rehearsals for Christchurch were briefly put on hold for the choir 25th Annual General Meeting at which the membership heralded another milestone in choir history with the adoption of a formal constitution.
And so to the forthcoming months as we lead up to the Christmas Charity Concert at Bingley Arts Centre on 20th December 2009.
Not surprisingly, we are back to our regular rehearsals but our commitment to socialising is evident with two events in the autumn. An almost annual Mystery Trip will take place over the weekend of 3rd & 4th October whisking members away to ???. Whilst the committee is organising an evening for choir members to showcase their hidden talents in an evening of entertainment called ‘The Glen Singers Have Got Talent’ on 6th November. (Check the Forthcoming events page for any changes).
There is a lot going on as we continue to develop as a choir which is why I believe our society proves an attractive proposition for anyone who wants to experience choral singing with pleasure.
