We are a Shipley-based mixed-voice choir, formed in 1984 by our present Musical Director, Maureen E Handby ARCM, as a group of 24 people interested in "singing for pleasure". Membership increased rapidly in the early years, and currently the choir has approximately 75 singing members.
Many concerts to raise money for local charities have been held in the Shipley and Bradford areas and indeed further afield, including Fountains Abbey and York Minster. Several singing tours in Germany have been undertaken over the years, and another is planned for 2008.
The Choir has a large and varied repertoire, choosing items from composers of classical pieces, religious and folk music and modern musicals.
Rehearsals
Choir rehearsals take place each Thursday evening at Thackley Methodist Church, Thackley, Bradford (except during the summer recess) unless a dress rehearsal at another time is necessary at a concert venue, in which case prior notice will be given.
Rehearsals commence at 7.45pm promptly and continue until approximately 9.45pm
Social Events
Equally important to the members are the many and varied social events which have been held over the years in which members of the Choir and their spouses/partners/families and friends have participated. It is this friendship and fellowship that makes The Glen Singers so special!
